1. MATCHES
Matches are an under appreciated addition to any shelf or coffee table. They are functional, different and can be ordered to fit any style décor for your home. Matches used to come in fire hot red ends, one size and in a very ugly card box box. Today, you can pretty much find any match of any color and size to fit your needs.
My go to picks include black or gray ends and short to medium length to pop into glassware. They can be showcased in a clear fun vase. Smaller boutique shops carry functional holders for smaller matches with a striking area on the side- functional and stylish.
2. A TRAVEL TREASURE
A good friend of mine collects coffee table books on all her travels, another collects fridge magnets. I love postcards and small trinket accents that can move into any space as a subtle complement. I’ve moved many times the past 10 years and have shuffled through so much furniture it could make you crazy, however my small set of boxes of travel trinkets will never be sold on Facebook Marketplace or thrown out.
These pieces could range from small vases, fixtures, trinket dishes or paperweights. I’ve collected many small items on my travels, a nice reminder of adventure.
3. DECORATIVE BOXES
Decorative boxes add a little glam with a splash of height difference to any shelf. I love mixing shiny boxes with neutral accents to create a glam but cozy feel. Decorative boxes can also store so many items we often don’t think of hiding like remotes, fan controllers, coasters and games.
I love filling mine with postcards from our travels or I have received from friends over the years, its a nice memory to pop open and re-read the magic of travel.

4. HEIGHT VISUALS
I like to keep shelves in a similar color scheme but add height and texture. In the shelving above, I went with neutral but with shades of black. Keeping the shelf within a few colors, its important to break up height to make sure you are not getting the same look and feel because of similar colors, it can easily become too blended.
You can mix pieces or choose 2-3 of the same piece in various heights to add dimension. This can be achieved with candles, vases or small statues.

5. WOODEN BEADS
Wooden Beads have been a popular item the past several years. They add texture and dimension. I like tying them loosely falling over a box or coffee table book. The beauty of them is you don’t have to try hard for them to make a statement.
